Project Guddifecha

Ethiopia is one of the countries seriously affected by climate change of the Global warming. Among other things, deforestation has contributed to this event. Now that the Ethiopian government has launched a re-forestation campaign in 2019 and mobilized the public at large towards this ambitious goal of planting billions of tree seedlings throughout the country. This campaign has been widely accepted by all levels of the society eager to make change by placing the generation’s green footprint (YETEWULLID ARENGUADE ASHARA) and is well underway. Now therefore, our organization WOMEN & GIRLS SUPPORT- ETHIOPIA (WGS-E),under its ‘I-CARE” umbrella has launched a project , streamlined with this national campaign by
involving women and girls under its domain to plant Five Million indigenous trees on plots of barren lands in the rural Ethiopia as allocated by the local administrations Project.

The concept behind the adoption is to provide/ allocate a certain number of the seedlings to an individual who will plant the seedlings and nurturing to its maturity level by that individual or make the individual sponsor the process by paying the required amount of money required to by the seedlings and then attending up to maturity (usually 3 years). By this arrangement, the individual will be the guardian of those new trees until they are fully grown just as he may be if he/she adopts children, thereby giving the chance to the individual to participate in the campaign and allow him stamp his green foot print and be part of the good and proud history.

On the other hand the women and girls who are participating and benefiting in the projects of our organization, WGS-E, of involved in the activities of the seedling preparation (nursery),planting the seedlings and nurturing the plants would have jobs created for them and get rewarded in the process. The workers will get the annual fee for caring and tending the allocated number of the plants who are still in good shape while they will miss the payment for
those plants which are missing during the annual inspection and so on. Project duration: This project would have two major activities (two phases). 1, Plantation of seedlings would be carried out during the rainy season, which in Ethiopia is from June up to August for three months.

The caretaking of the planted trees which is vital for their growth and which is usually challenging should be done during the remaining period of the year. This includes watering and securing from animals and other damages. If the newly planted is neglected, it will wither away just as an adopted child would if left unattended. How It Works: Any individual who would like to take part will declare the number of tree plants he would seek to adopt in his name or any other person’s name living or deceased. Then he/ she would be registered in the adopting guardians’ BOOK OF HONOR to participate in the process directly or to sponsor the event by covering the costs of the seedlings and the annual tending costs every year (2years). Name/s of the sponsor or honored person can be installed on a placard on the site, at additional cost. Anyone who decides to participate will fill the form attached below, detach and, send it together with the payment confirmation slip to the address shown above or e-mail. Project costs: One time Cost of seedlings.

1 USD PER SEEDLING (includes preparation, transport, and planting) Yearly Nursing and tending costs:

1 USD per month for one tree

ALL INTERESTED ARE INVITED. DO NOT MISS THE CHANCE OF BEING IN ETHIOPIA’S GREEN HISTORY!
